Slack is one of the tools that enables UCLA’s digital campus — a collaboration hub that enables real-time communications and connections in a searchable platform for real-time messaging, content sharing, learning, and more.

Logging in

Login at ucla.slack.com to get started.

You will be taken to the Multi-factor authentication page. Enter your UCLA Logon ID and password and click "Sign In"

If this is your first time signing into the UCLA Slack environment, you will be prompted to "Review the terms of service". Click "I agree".

If you have the Slack Desktop App installed you may receive this popup option. Check the "Always allow ucla.slack.com to open links of this type in the associated app" option if you would like slack links to launch in the Slack Desktop application.

Quickstart - Joining Arts workspaces

Here we will try to get things going with brief instruction on how to join the School Of the Arts and Architecture workspaces.

As with our email lists, you will not be allowed to join every channel. So we will look at joining some of the general SOAA workspaces.

Once you have successfully logged in to the UCLA instance of Slack via your browser, click Channel browser in the left margin. In the main window, enter #soaa-general and click Enter.

Once you have located the matching entry, click the "Join" button.

SOAA Workspaces you may want to connect to:

  • #soaa-announcements

  • #soaa-general

  • #soaa-random

Other Workspaces to consider:

  • #ucla-announcements

  • #workspace-housekeeping

More Useful Information to Get Started with Slack

Join a Slack workspace

A Slack workspace is made up of channels, where team members can communicate and work together. When you join a workspace, you'll need to create a Slack account using your email address.

If you plan to join more than one workspace, you'll need to create a separate account for each one. You can join as many workspaces as you'd like, and there's no limit to the number of Slack accounts you can create with the same email address.
Ways to join a workspace:

  • Accept an email invitation from someone in the workspace

  • Join your company's workspace automatically using your work email address

  • Find workspaces you're eligible to join by looking up your email address

Tip: Need to create a workspace? Read Create a Slack workspace.

Accept an invitation

To join a workspace you've been invited to, you'll need to accept the invitation and set up a Slack account for that workspace. Here's how:

Check your inbox for an email invitation from Slack.
Click Join Now.
Enter your full name and a password, then click Create Account
