What is @ucla.edu email?

Your @ucla.edu email address is an alias which forwards to another email, by default your @g.ucla.edu email. If you are given an @arts.ucla.edu email, @arts.ucla.edu is your primary email. To avoid confusion, @ucla.edu should not be given out as the email to use. Use @g.ucla.edu or @arts.ucla.edu (if one is provided) instead.

[yourUCLALogon]@ucla.edu also serves are as your username to access many UCLA applications and systems (ie. wifi, outlook email, adobe applications)


Where does my @ucla.edu forward to?

  1. To verify forwarding login to the UCLA Identity and Accounts Manager: https://accounts.iam.ucla.edu/

  2. Your official email will be listed under “My Personal Information”

The email listed in "My Personal Information" should also match the email listed in the UCLA Directory.


What is @g.ucla.edu email?

Your [yourUCLALogon]@g.ucla.edu address is a UCLA Google Apps for Education account which includes Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs, and more. Google Apps for Education is available to employees, students, alumni, and retirees. For more information, please see Google Apps for UCLA Eligibility and Activation.

By default, [yourUCLALogon]@g.ucla.edu is the email listed in the UCLA Directory.


How do I sign into @g.ucla.edu email?

  1. Go to https://g.ucla.edu/ 

  2. Sign in with UCLA Logon ID.

Alternatively, since this is a Google email, you can log into gmail.com with [yourUCLALogon]@g.ucla.edu and UCLA Logon ID will open to finish signing in.



What is @arts.ucla.edu email? (by manager request only)

An @arts.ucla.edu email address is an Outlook available only by request of department manager. Usually only staff and senate faculty are provided with an @arts.ucla.edu email address.  ARTS departmental email is part of the Microsoft Office 365 (O365) suite of collaboration tools.  ARTS department email is supported by the Enterprise Messaging group within campus IT Services.  ARTS email addresses come with 50GB of email storage and 1TB of Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage.


*If an @arts.ucla.edu email is created, this becomes the primary email and the email listed in the UCLA Directory.


How do I sign into @arts.ucla.edu email?

  1. Go to https://outlook.office.com/

  2. Enter [yourUCLALogon]@ucla.edu (aka your UCLA alias). Notice that the full @arts.ucla.edu address is NOT included.

  3. The UCLA Logon ID window will open to finish signing in.

    **PLEASE NOTE: UCLA OCISO requires Duo Desktop and Trellix antivirus to be installed on the computer you are signing in from. More information here: https://ociso.ucla.edu/ucla-duo-desktop. There are currently no restrictions on mobile.



I only want to use one email. Can I forward one to the other?

All faculty, staff, and students are given an @g.ucla.edu email. Staff and senate faculty are also given an @arts.ucla.edu and are highly encouraged to use this email as their primary as it is most likely the email in the UCLA Directory.


For those who primarily use @arts.ucla.edu, how to forward from @g.ucla.edu to @arts.ucla.edu

  1. Logon to your g.ucla.edu

  2. Settings > See all settings 

  3. Select Forwarding and POP/IMAP, Add a forwarding address. Select Forward a copy of incoming mail to your @arts.ucla.edu and keep Google Apps for UCLA Mail’s copy in the inbox

For those who primarily use @g.ucla.edu, how to forward @arts.ucla.edu email to @g.ucla.edu 

  1. Logon to the Outlook Web App for Office 365: https://outlook.office.com/mail/

  2. Select Outlook on the left-hand side

  3. Select Settings > View All Outlook Settings

  4. Go to Mail > Forwarding > Enable Forwarding > @g.ucla.edu
    Select Keep a copy of forwarded messages to retain a backup on your O365 account.
